About the role

Join an established, technology‑driven organisation expanding its engineering team in Johannesburg. As a Backend PHP Developer you will build and optimise robust digital platforms, working with modern development practices and collaborative teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using modern PHP frameworks.
• Design and optimise database structures for scalable applications.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA, and product teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold best‑practice development standards.
• Investigate performance issues and implement effective improvements.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in backend PHP development.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming principles.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team.

Required skills

• PHP and modern PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Symfony).
• Object‑oriented programming (OOP).
• Relational databases, particularly MySQL.
• API design and consumption.
• Version control systems (Git).
• Familiarity with testing, containerised environments, and deployment processes.
