Accountant – Real Estate Focus (Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented accountant with solid real‑estate experience to join Howard Financial’s back‑office team. Working as an independent contractor, you will support multiple high‑growth clients by delivering accurate financial reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle accounting for several clients, including AP/AR, bank and credit‑card reconciliations, and month‑end close.
• Prepare, review and analyse monthly financial statements, management reports, budgets and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and relevant regulations, addressing discrepancies proactively.
• Perform job costing, project accounting and budget‑to‑actual analysis as required.
• Support tax compliance by preparing documentation, coordinating with external tax advisors and assisting audit requests.
• Build and maintain relationships with client stakeholders, providing insights to improve financial operations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls to enhance accuracy and scalability.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, with proven real‑estate industry exposure.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles.
• Fluent English (B2+), able to communicate confidently with high‑profile clients.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, growth‑focused environment.
• Availability 9 AM–5 PM EST, Monday‑Friday.
