Accountant – Midrand

About the role

SPEC Africa Holdings is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its Finance Department in Midrand. The role involves maintaining accurate accounting records, supporting statutory submissions, and providing management reporting while ensuring compliance with internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain complete, accurate and up‑to‑date accounting records up to trial balance.
• Process cashbook transactions, journals and general ledger entries.
• Prepare and review balance‑sheet, bank, petty‑cash and statutory reconciliations.
• Assist with monthly management accounts, reports and Value Added Tax submissions.
• Allocate accounting entries to appropriate accounts, cost centres and projects.
• Support project‑related accounting, cost allocations and supplier/sub‑contractor reconciliations.
• Identify and escalate discrepancies, financial risks or internal‑control weaknesses.
• Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries.
• Supervise and support bookkeeping staff where applicable.
• Perform any other finance‑related duties as required by the Financial Manager.

Required profile

• Tertiary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar accounting position.
• Strong accounting and reconciliation experience.
• Good knowledge of accounting systems and statutory reporting requirements.
• Strong computer literacy, especially Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to communicate in at least two official South African languages.

Required skills

• BuildSmart (or similar construction accounting software) experience.
• Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Familiarity with accounting systems.
