Template Developer

About the role

The Template Developer designs, builds, and maintains automated legal document templates used by law firms across Canada, the UK, and South Africa. Working closely with legal and business stakeholders, you will translate requirements into automated logic to support high‑quality legal document production.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain automated legal templates, including court forms, precedents, and correspondence documents.
• Construct, format, and style documents using Microsoft Word and proprietary template development tools.
• Analyse legal documents to determine appropriate automation levels and document logic.
• Translate requirements into conditional rules (if/then/else), fill points, stop‑codes, and dialog structures.
• Link user‑input data to templates for automated assembly and distribution.
• Research legal, regulatory, and operational contexts for template use.
• Test, troubleshoot, and refine templates to ensure accuracy and usability.
• Maintain and update existing templates to reflect legal or client‑specific changes.
• Ensure consistency, precision, and quality across all templates.
• Collaborate with internal legal, technical, and business teams.
