Stewarding Supervisor – Pre‑opening Hotel

About the role

We are seeking a Stewarding Supervisor to lead the stewarding team during the pre‑opening phase of a luxury hotel in Cape Town. The role focuses on ensuring efficient clean‑up operations, maintaining high hygiene standards, and supporting banquet and kitchen activities.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and assist stewards to optimise cleaning processes and turnaround times.
• Monitor water temperature and chemical levels, record readings and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Assist with banquet plate‑ups, stock transport and buffet set‑up, and return cleaned items to their proper locations.
• Operate and maintain dishwashing machines, hand‑wash stations, pot‑scrubbing stations and trash compactors.
• Support kitchen staff by supplying needed items and performing miscellaneous tasks.
• Participate in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and coaching stewarding team members.
• Enforce company safety, security and uniform policies; report accidents and unsafe conditions.
• Provide courteous guest service, anticipate needs and maintain professional appearance.

Required profile

• Previous experience in stewarding or kitchen support within a hotel or large‑scale food service environment.
• Ability to work physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lb and standing for long periods.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygiene and safety standards.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with kitchen and banquet teams.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of commercial dishwashing equipment.
• Handling and documentation of cleaning chemicals and water temperature controls.
• Basic knowledge of hazardous material handling procedures (MSDS).
