Senior Professional Nurse – General

About the role

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in delivering safe, high‑quality patient care while ensuring a positive client experience. This role combines direct clinical duties with mentorship of new and student nurses within a multidisciplinary hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Mitigate clinical risks and meet established quality standards to ensure comprehensive patient safety.
• Coordinate the client experience, overseeing patient flow and satisfaction.
• Manage staffing resources to optimise supply, retention and utilisation.
• Support operational expense management, including stock and capital control.
• Provide mentorship and continuous competence development for nursing staff.

Required profile

• Professional Nurse qualification (mandatory) and, where applicable, a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for specialist units.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional nursing experience in a hospital setting.
• At least 1 year of mentorship experience.

Required skills

• Pharmacology knowledge.
• Nursing record keeping and documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Infection prevention and control practices.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Basic Life Support and risk identification.
• Mentorship and staff development capabilities.
