Senior Electrical Engineer – Power & Energy

About the role

The Senior Engineer/Technologist will lead electrical design activities across medium to large‑scale power and energy projects. Reporting to the Function Manager – Power & Energy, the role combines design management, team leadership, and client interaction to deliver high‑quality solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full electrical design process for projects in renewable energy, power reticulation, distribution substations, overhead/underground lines, streetlighting, water plants, and master planning.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, control budgets, resources and timelines for both internal and outsourced design teams.
• Negotiate project budgets and schedules with other sections and present technical designs to committees and clients.
• Prepare competent technical reports, respond to bids, and ensure deliverables meet SMEC standards.
• Supervise engineers and technicians during inspections, propose remedial actions, and develop design procedures.
• Mentor junior staff, build client relationships, and identify opportunities for additional work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or higher) from an accredited university.
• Significant experience in electrical design and project delivery within the power and energy sector.
• Proven ability to lead medium/large projects and manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills for client interaction and technical presentations.
