About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a driven Legal Professional to join a dynamic civil‑law team in Cape Town. Working in a call‑centre‑style legal insurance environment, you will provide advice to policyholders, mediate disputes and draft legal documents, all while delivering practical, amicable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Obtain detailed instructions from clients via in‑person, telephonic or written consultations.
  • Provide immediate basic legal advice where applicable.
  • Handle family law and estate‑related matters.
  • Explain processes and exclusions clearly to clients.
  • Draft legal documents such as warning letters, client correspondence, settlement agreements, wills and representations.
  • Conduct informal mediation and negotiations to resolve disputes.
  • Provide regular feedback to clients (minimum twice monthly or as required).
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate file notes.
  • Apply legal principles to specific cases and deliver sound legal opinions.
  • Conduct legal research to stay current with legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures and legal standards.
  • Assess case merits for advice and litigation eligibility.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments and support staff.
  • Escalate matters accurately when required.
  • Maintain proper administration and diarisation of case files.
  • Monitor policy‑related matters, including payment verification.
  • Adhere to deadlines and deliver work within required timeframes.

Required profile

  • LLB degree (admission as an Attorney or Advocate advantageous).
  • Minimum 2+ years post‑articles experience in a civil legal environment.
  • Experience across a variety of civil matters.
  • Ability to speak, read and write at least two official South African languages.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and administrative abilities.
  • Fully computer literate.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Positive, motivated and solution‑driven mindset.
