About the role
The Technology Transfer Manager leads the commercialisation of university research, turning academic discoveries into real‑world applications that generate impact and sustainable income. This fixed‑term position oversees a team responsible for technology disclosures, development through technology readiness levels, and the full commercialisation process.
Key responsibilities
- Identify innovation opportunities and engage researchers to build a pipeline of commercialisable technologies.
- Manage commercialisation projects, including IP portfolio oversight and progression through TRLs.
- Conduct IP due diligence and align technologies with market needs.
- Lead deal negotiations, licensing agreements, and support spin‑out company formation.
- Provide leadership and institutional support to embed innovation within the university.
Required profile
- Postgraduate research degree (NQF 9) or MBA.
- 5–8 years of professional experience, with at least 3–5 years in technology transfer or a related field.
