General Assistant – Customer Service & Merchandising

About the role

The General Assistant will ensure a high level of customer service within the store, maintain merchandising standards and keep the work area safe and tidy. This role is focused on assisting shoppers, handling stock, and supporting the store’s daily operations in Delft.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly and accurate assistance to customers, answering product queries and resolving complaints.
• Merchandise bulk stock safely according to store layout and planograms.
• Label shelves with correct prices and keep the assigned aisle free of obstacles.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area, including timely stocking and housekeeping.
• Follow OHSA safety procedures and use required safety gear.
• Report damaged or lost stock to the Store Manager.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with at least one year of work‑related experience, or Grade 12 without experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language.
• Valid South African ID or work permit (or equivalent local documentation).
• Basic arithmetic skills and ability to perform calculations accurately.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays and to work under pressure.
