About the role
The Firearm and Asset Control Officer is responsible for the secure issuance, receipt and management of company firearms, ammunition and related assets. Working within the gun vault, the officer ensures compliance with South African firearms legislation and internal SOPs while maintaining accurate records.
Key responsibilities
- Validate employee eligibility and competency certificates before issuing firearms and ammunition.
- Authenticate and record all issued items against the relevant permits and update the centre firearms register.
- Manage gun vault keys, perform daily vault balancing and reconcile issued and returned assets.
- Conduct weekly inspections of firearms to ensure cleanliness, functionality and correct serial numbers.
- Maintain complete registers, permits, paperwork and report incidents in the Occurrence Book.
- Perform monthly stock inventories, file records for audit and coordinate procurement of new stock.
- Support administrative functions, log system faults and assist with control‑room duties as needed.
Required profile
- Valid competency certificate for the specific firearm category.
- Current registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
- Knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 60 (2000), Firearms Regulations 2004 and Regulation 21.
