Consultant in Cardiology – General Cardiology & Cardiac Imaging

About the role

This full‑time Consultant Cardiologist position is based in the Department of Cardiology at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, serving a population of 620,000 across NHS Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. The role combines general adult cardiology with a focus on echocardiography and adult congenital heart disease.

Key responsibilities

• Provide general adult cardiology inpatient care, including weekend ward rounds (1:11 on‑call).
• Run three outpatient clinics per week covering general cardiology and adult congenital heart disease.
• Perform a weekly transoesophageal echocardiography list and support the cardiac MDT and TAVI MDT.
• Contribute to specialist clinics such as complex heart failure, arrhythmias, valve disease and cardiac imaging.
• Participate in departmental meetings, including echocardiography case reviews.

Required profile

• Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC.
• Experience in general cardiology, echocardiography and adult congenital heart disease.
• Commitment to teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration and continuous service improvement.
