Care Home General Assistant – Full‑time

About the role

The Cancer Association of South Africa is seeking a dedicated Care Home General Assistant to support daily operations in its Tygerberg care home. You will ensure a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for patients while assisting with nutrition and basic healthcare tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve three balanced meals per day according to approved menus and dietary requirements.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, infection control, and personal hygiene throughout the facility.
• Monitor patients' vital signs, observe possible side effects of treatment, and report findings to the TLC Coordinator.
• Accurately record patient information in the reporting system while preserving confidentiality.
• Provide basic information about care home services to patients, families, and visitors.
• Complete intake forms and other administrative tasks as required.
• Interact professionally with stakeholders, clients, and patient families, and refer issues according to established guidelines.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Previous experience in a care home, healthcare, hospitality, or similar support environment is advantageous.
• Relevant caregiving or healthcare‑related training/certification is beneficial.
• Compassionate, caring attitude with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Non‑smoker.
