Automation Technician – Electronics Process Control

About the role

The Automation Technician will join the Gqeberha Production team, reporting to the Engineering Specialist. The role focuses on maintaining and optimising electronic process control systems to support reliable production output.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain electronic process control hardware and software, including loop checks and calibration.
• Install new process control systems in line with company standards.
• Review and optimise process control philosophies.
• Audit control programs and ensure changes follow ISO procedures.
• Produce required documentation such as installation drawings, P&IDs, loop identification and tagging.
• Coordinate machine output to improve overall line performance.
• Manage access control, fault finding and backup of electronic systems on designated servers.
• Participate in Minibuses Operating System activities and perform administrative functions.
• Train and coach production controllers, artisans, machine controllers and operators.
• Support production controllers in problem‑solving and achieve production targets.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
• At least 2 years experience with Siemens software programming.
• Proven PLC experience with Siemens S5 and S7 platforms.
• Qualified Electronic Technician (N6) or equivalent.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and knowledge of health & safety standards.
• Leadership capability and ability to work effectively in a team.
