Trade Mark Attorney – Manage Independent Trade Mark Function

About the role

Join a prestigious South African law firm and take full ownership of its trade mark function. You will advise both local and international clients, handling prosecution, disputes, agreements and broader IP matters independently.

Key responsibilities

• Manage trade mark portfolios, including clearance searches, applications, renewals, assignments and recordals.
• Advise clients on trade mark, copyright and broader IP protection strategies.
• Handle contentious proceedings such as oppositions, cancellations and High Court IP disputes.
• Draft and negotiate IP agreements, licences and coexistence arrangements.
• Oversee company name objections, domain name disputes and related matters.

Required profile

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with successful completion of SAIIPL Trade Mark Examinations (Group 1 & 2).
• Minimum 2 years post‑admission experience focused on intellectual property and trade marks.
• Proven experience managing trade mark portfolios and advising on IP protection strategies.
• LLB degree and solid exposure to trade mark prosecution, enforcement and contentious matters.
