Tax Manager – Lead Group Tax Strategy & Compliance

About the role

Mukuru is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to own day‑to‑day tax compliance, reporting and risk management across multiple jurisdictions. You will partner with the Tax Director on strategic issues while leading operational tax matters for a fast‑growing fintech group.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement group tax processes, policies and advisory projects that support business priorities.
• Oversee income‑tax, VAT and other tax reconciliations, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and timely filing.
• Manage multi‑jurisdictional tax returns and reporting for Africa, the UK and Europe, including transfer‑pricing documentation.
• Maintain the tax risk register, design controls, and lead tax audits and dispute strategies.
• Coach and develop junior tax staff, providing guidance and training across the organisation.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate honours degree or diploma in Accounting/Tax and a Chartered Accountant or equivalent tax qualification.
• 7‑10 years of tax experience, including VAT/indirect taxes and leading tax projects in a multinational or fintech environment.
• At least 5 years of experience supervising teams and working across African markets (advantageous).
• Strong knowledge of corporate tax, VAT legislation, IFRS and transfer pricing.
