Structures Resident Engineer – N3 Mariannhill Toll Plaza

About the role

The Structures Resident Engineer will act as the on‑site authority for the N3 Mariannhill Toll Plaza to Key Ridge project, overseeing contract administration, design coordination and quality control throughout construction.

Key responsibilities

• Administer the contract and serve as the Resident Engineer, managing communication between the client, contractors and designers.
• Review construction drawings, respond to contractor queries and ensure design intent is maintained.
• Inspect works and test results, maintaining quality control records in SMEC’s quality management system.
• Prepare and update cost‑to‑completion estimates, monitor programme schedules and contract budgets.
• Handle claims, prepare variation orders and compile close‑out reports, including environmental management monitoring.

Required profile

• Proven experience in construction supervision and contract administration for infrastructure projects.
• Strong ability to liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Excellent record‑keeping and reporting skills, including progress and minutes of technical meetings.
• Capability to manage site resources, monitor quality and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and project close‑out activities.
