Senior Application Engineer – Python/Django/FastAPI

About the role

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to join a high‑performing technology team in Bellville. You will work on Python‑based services, APIs and integrations using Django and FastAPI, while shaping architecture and improving platform reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services, APIs and integrations using Python, Django and FastAPI.
• Participate in architecture discussions and make technical decisions that balance simplicity and scalability.
• Optimize database performance and conduct SQL tuning.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and deployment processes.
• Collaborate with cloud, micro‑service and container teams to ensure smooth operations.
• Mentor junior developers and promote clean‑code standards.
• Drive proof‑of‑concepts and continuous platform improvements.

Required profile

• Relevant IT qualification (degree or diploma) or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• 10+ years of software development in object‑oriented environments.
• 8+ years of professional Python experience, with production use of Django and FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of SQL and database optimisation.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows and modern development practices.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, micro‑services and containerised environments.
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and collaborative problem solving.
