Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Isotope Hydrogeology

About the role

The BIOGRIP Soil and Water Node, hosted by Stellenbosch University’s Department of Earth Sciences, seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Isotope Hydrogeology to join a project focused on understanding groundwater systems in the Western Cape using environmental isotopes, including radon and stable water isotopes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field sampling and isotopic analysis of groundwater.
• Apply GIS and Python for data manipulation, spatial analysis and advanced modelling.
• Integrate geospatial and isotopic data to elucidate flow pathways and timescales.

Required profile

• PhD in Hydrogeology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geochemistry or a closely related field.
• Strong publication record and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial analysis and visualisation.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct fieldwork, including groundwater sampling and monitoring.
• Collaborative approach with the ability to mentor students and work across disciplines.
