Metering, Control & Instrumentation Engineer

About the role

The MC&I Engineer will support Transnet Pipelines’ long‑term strategy for Metering, Control & Instrumentation (MC&I) assets. You will ensure the pipeline network’s instrumentation, metering and control systems remain fit for purpose, safe and compliant with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute lifecycle asset‑management plans for MC&I infrastructure, including maintenance, upgrades, replacements and de‑commissioning.
• Perform performance reviews, technology audits and condition assessments of MC&I equipment to verify compliance with maintenance and operational standards.
• Lead root‑cause investigations, research and development projects, and implement corrective actions to resolve chronic engineering issues.
• Review and approve P&ID designs, evaluate new technologies, and oversee testing and commissioning of instrumentation stations.
• Ensure operational readiness of new assets by managing spares availability, maintenance procedures and skilled personnel support.
• Implement and maintain a technology‑driven maintenance management system, keeping data current and actionable.

Required profile

• Proven expertise in Metering, Control & Instrumentation within the oil & gas or pipeline sector.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA systems, API 653 inspection standards and pipeline instrumentation.
• Experience conducting root‑cause analysis, technical audits and R&D on complex engineering problems.
• Ability to develop and manage asset‑lifecycle strategies and maintenance plans.
