Merchandise Manager – Apparel & Design

About the role

The Apparel Merchandise & Design Manager is responsible for planning, developing, sourcing and executing the merchandise strategy for an international outdoor performance and lifestyle brand. Based in Durban, this role balances imported international products with locally manufactured lines to maximise sales, profitability and brand alignment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop seasonal merchandise plans aligned with global brand direction and local market needs.
• Build balanced assortments across performance running, outdoor and lifestyle categories.
• Collaborate with global brand partners on product selection, forecasting and range approval.
• Manage the end‑to‑end product lifecycle, including markdowns, replenishment and exit strategies.
• Lead local range development, design, sourcing and production of apparel and accessories.
• Forecast demand, manage OTB budgets and optimise inventory across wholesale, retail and e‑commerce channels.
• Set pricing strategies, monitor margins and identify profitability improvement opportunities.
• Analyse sales performance, provide insights and drive growth.
• Work closely with marketing, retail, e‑commerce and senior management on campaigns, launches and budget tracking.

Required profile

• Proven experience in apparel merchandise planning, product development and sourcing.
• Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and inventory optimisation.
• Ability to translate global collections into commercially viable local assortments.
• Excellent analytical skills for sales and margin analysis.
• Collaborative mindset for cross‑functional teamwork.
