Mechanical Project Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Project Engineer to lead technically complex projects from design coordination through to commissioning. The role is based in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town and offers exposure to data‑centres, pharmaceutical facilities and major infrastructure projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑value projects on schedule and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate mechanical engineering activities from design through on‑site installation and commissioning.
• Review drawings, specifications, P&IDs and technical submittals, manage RFIs and procurement documentation.
• Support project reporting, quality inspections, snagging, test packs, method statements and risk assessments.
• Liaise with design teams, contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with technical and project requirements.

Required profile

• BTech or degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Proven experience in mechanical project engineering, MEP or HVAC within a construction environment.
• Experience reviewing and coordinating mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications and technical submittals through to installation.
• Practical exposure to procurement, subcontractor coordination and commissioning processes.
