Mechanical Engineer – Building Services (Cape Town)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established consulting engineering firm in Cape Town, is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join their building services team. The role involves delivering mechanical HVAC, wet services and fire engineering solutions across large‑scale projects from inception to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the management of mechanical building services across all project stages, from concept through design, implementation and handover.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure project delivery meets South African codes and rational design standards.
• Prepare detailed specifications, bills of quantities and technical reports for the mechanical scope.
• Support on‑site activities, including site visits, inspections and coordination with contractors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or BSc) – required.
• 2‑5+ years’ experience in the building services industry with knowledge of HVAC, wet services and fire suppression design.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with ESCA or at least Candidate Engineer status.
• Fluent in English and able to understand Afrikaans for client meetings.
• Willingness to relocate to Cape Town’s northern suburbs and work on construction sites.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with Revit (highly recommended).
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, wet services and fire engineering design.
• Understanding of South African SANS codes and rational design principles.
