Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Position

Join a leading engineering and manufacturing firm based in Cape Town as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in our innovation cycle, transforming complex concepts into high-performance mechanical systems within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Main Missions

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and complex systems using advanced CAD software.
• Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation, including detailed technical drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Perform rigorous design calculations, simulations, and product testing to ensure structural integrity and functionality.
• Drive continuous improvement by optimizing existing products for enhanced performance, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with production, procurement, and project management teams to ensure seamless implementation from design to manufacturing.
• Lead prototyping, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities to resolve technical challenges.
• Ensure all designs strictly adhere to engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.

• Proven experience in mechanical design and product development within an industrial setting.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex technical problems.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Expertise in mechanical design, simulation, and FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturing (DfM).
• Proficiency in creating technical documentation and managing BOMs.
• Strong knowledge of engineering mathematics and material science.
