Maintenance Assistant

About the role

The Maintenance Assistant will support the maintenance department in keeping all buildings, facilities, equipment and surrounding areas at a high standard. The role involves assisting with repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections and general upkeep of the property.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry and mechanical work.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment and address issues promptly.
• Assist in implementing and following preventative maintenance schedules and monitor equipment for faults.
• Maintain cleanliness and appearance of maintenance areas, staff accommodation, guest areas and public spaces.
• Support gardening and outdoor upkeep as required.
• Follow health and safety procedures, report hazards and ensure safe completion of work.
• Complete maintenance checklists, job cards and assist with stock control of supplies and tools.
• Provide ad‑hoc support to the maintenance team.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• 2–3 years of maintenance experience in hospitality, lodge, hotel or similar property environment.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.
• Valid driver’s licence (advantageous).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication and organisational skills.
• Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and be on standby when required.
• Attention to detail, problem‑solving, time‑management and reliability.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and painting.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair minor maintenance issues.
• Understanding of preventative maintenance planning and equipment monitoring.
