About the role
The Legal Counsel (Institutional) will provide business‑focused legal advice and contract support to Momentum Investments' institutional businesses. The role centres on South African financial services regulation, especially asset‑management related legislation.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate investment management agreements, ISDAs, service level agreements, data agreements and other contractual documents.
- Monitor legal risks, report on regulatory developments and support compliance training initiatives.
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual matters, legislative interpretation and operational processes.
- Provide legal support for product launches, new client onboarding and regulatory change projects.
- Collaborate with compliance, risk, portfolio management and IT teams to embed good governance and manage emerging risks.
Required profile
- BCom LLB or LLB degree and admission as an attorney.
- 3–5 years post‑admission legal experience, preferably in investment or asset‑management environments.
- Experience with corporate law, complex transactions, alternative investments, global‑markets documentation and securitisation structures.
- Strong knowledge of South African financial sector laws (FAIS, FICA, CISCA, Insurance Act, FMA, JSE rules, POPIA).
