Legal Advisor – Retirement Fund

About the role

Our client, a leading retirement fund, seeks an experienced Legal Advisor to provide comprehensive legal counsel across all operations. You will advise senior management and the Board, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor a Junior Legal Advisor.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on fund matters, ensuring compliance with the Pension Funds Act, FSCA requirements, and internal rules.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, protecting the fund’s interests.
• Manage litigation processes, instruct external attorneys, and represent the fund in statutory or administrative proceedings.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise the Board on compliance risks.
• Maintain legal records, contract and attorney databases, and the fund’s rule‑book.
• Coach and oversee the Junior Legal Advisor.
• Contribute to fund committees, projects, and the annual audit process.

Required profile

• LLB, BCom Law, or equivalent qualification.
• Admitted attorney with 8+ years post‑admission experience, preferably in financial services or retirement funds.
• Strong knowledge of the Pension Funds Act, FSRA, and FSCA regulatory landscape.
• Experience with private‑equity deal structures, due diligence, and commercial contract negotiation.
• Proven track record in dispute resolution and litigation management.
