Legal Advisor – Renewable Energy Projects

About the role

The Legal Advisor will provide comprehensive legal support to TotalEnergies Renewables’ South African business units, focusing on wind and solar projects led by independent power producers. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the advisor ensures robust legal frameworks throughout development, investment, construction, and operation phases.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including letters of intent, MOUs, partnership and shareholders agreements, EPC, O&M, land, acquisition, sale, and share purchase agreements.
• Prepare legal documentation for tender responses and manage legal aspects of awarded projects, including joint‑venture formation and agreement implementation.
• Conduct legal studies, interpret new regulations, and advise business teams on compliance.
• Coordinate and supervise external law firms in line with group policies.
• Attend regular 1:1 meetings with the Head of Legal Onshore Teams and follow up on any litigation files.
• Prepare internal legal memoranda for corporate approval processes and contribute to legal reporting.
• Develop training materials, guidelines, and support the standardisation of contractual documents.
• Liaise with GRP and TotalEnergies South‑East teams and assist with corporate housekeeping of legal entities.

Required profile

• LLB or BCom Law qualification.
• Minimum of 5–6 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in renewable energy or infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• Strong understanding of South African energy regulations and corporate law.
