Legal Advisor – Corporate & Compliance

About the role

The Legal Advisor will provide expert legal counsel, draft and review a wide range of agreements, and ensure the organisation complies with all relevant legislation. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the role supports business units and drives ethical, compliant business conduct.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and risk assessments to business units.
• Draft, negotiate and review bespoke contracts, NDAs, terms and conditions, and other legal notices.
• Vet agreements for legal robustness and compliance with applicable laws.
• Support other departments with their specific legal requirements.
• Manage the company’s panel of external legal experts and oversee litigation matters.
• Develop and maintain contract repositories, template registers, and related administrative processes.
• Perform corporate legal and secretarial duties, including board minutes, company registration, and governance structure management.
• Drive compliance, ethics, and BBBEE transformation initiatives, monitoring progress and reporting on projects.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with experience in corporate and compliance law.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex agreements.
• Experience managing external legal counsel and handling litigation matters.
• Strong understanding of South African legislative environment and corporate governance.
• Ability to work closely with senior leadership and multiple business units.
