About the role
The University of the Western Cape’s Faculty of Law seeks a permanent Lecturer to teach and develop the Civil Procedure component of its LLB programme, and to contribute to related areas within Criminal Justice and Procedure.
Key responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate (and where appropriate postgraduate) modules, primarily Civil Procedure.
- Develop and deliver core LLB modules, including Criminal Procedure, Law of Evidence, and Constitutional Rights.
- Design curriculum, assessments and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research.
- Build a research profile and publish in accredited journals.
- Participate in departmental, faculty and university governance.
- Engage in community‑based, socially responsive legal initiatives.
Required profile
- LLM degree and active enrolment in a doctoral programme.
- Demonstrated teaching or tutoring experience.
- Evidence of at least one accredited publication.
- Progress towards a doctoral degree in Civil Procedure, procedural law, criminal law or related fields (strongly preferred).
- Teaching experience in Civil Procedure or related procedural law modules within an LLB curriculum.
- Practical legal experience in civil or criminal litigation.
