Lead Buyer

About the role

Alstom is seeking a Lead Buyer to manage the procurement of critical components for its rolling‑stock operations in South Africa. Based at the Boksburg production site, the Lead Buyer will drive commodity strategies, ensure alignment with quality, cost and delivery targets, and support local content objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for subsystems such as propulsion, electrical, braking, compressed‑air, suspension, bearings and cooling systems.
• Lead supplier selection, performance monitoring, risk management and contractual relationships.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including engineering, quality, supply‑chain, legal and finance to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Prepare and manage RFx processes, raise purchase orders and contracts, and track order status.
• Provide market intelligence, identify supply risks and ensure pricing aligns with market indices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement or buying within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of commodity buying, supplier management and contract negotiation.
• Ability to work with diverse internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Familiarity with local content requirements and regional regulations.

Required skills

• Knowledge of procurement processes (RFx, procure‑to‑pay).
• Experience with supplier performance and risk management.
• Understanding of rolling‑stock subsystems and related components.
