HSE O&M Manager – Renewable Energy Projects

About the role

The HSE O&M Manager will lead health, safety, environmental and sustainability governance across TotalEnergies renewable assets in the Sutherland and Matjiesfontein region. The role ensures compliance with legal, shareholder, lender and company requirements while supporting safe and sustainable operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall HSE and Environmental & Sustainability oversight across wind, solar PV, BESS and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Review, draft and implement contractor and project company HSE plans in line with company rules, local legislation and international standards.
• Ensure accurate and timely HSE reporting and coordinate legal compliance, permit obligations and company HSE requirements.
• Lead implementation and continual improvement of the HSE Management System.
• Conduct contractor assurance through audits, inspections, reviews and performance monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, sustainability and lender requirements.
• Lead incident investigations, audit activities and corrective action management.
• Monitor operational risks and escalate significant HSE concerns to management.
• Act as the SPV focal point for governance, reporting and action management.
• Prepare and present HSE reports to management and SPV governance structures.
• Support emergency preparedness, operational readiness and management of change activities.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Safety Management, Environmental studies or equivalent; SACPCMP qualification advantageous.
• 7+ years combined HSE experience, preferably in renewable energy or industrial operations.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, South African HSE legislation and environmental requirements for renewable projects.
• Experience managing HSE Management Systems for wind, solar PV, BESS and substation operations.
• Strong initiative, ability to meet deadlines and drive tasks to completion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Willingness to travel and spend time on site; valid driver’s license.
