Freight Manager

About the role

Our client provides an integrated multimodal transport solution across Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, offering warehousing, distribution, container packing and unpacking, and transshipment services. They are seeking an experienced Freight Manager to lead operations from the Prospecton office in Durban.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with shipping lines and other service providers to coordinate shipments.
• Manage sub‑ordinates, including daily supervision, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
• Oversee branch profitability and ensure the accounts department receives accurate documentation.
• Process import and export files (air, sea, road) from quotation through invoicing, costing and month‑end closing.
• Monitor container and LCL shipment schedules, stack dates and actual time of arrival.
• Prepare SAD500, EUR1, SI certificates, hazardous material applications and arrange fumigation or inspections.
• Handle full shipment lifecycle, from estimating to file closure.
• Respond to client queries and maintain strong supplier relationships to drive business growth.

Required profile

• Matric qualification (minimum).
• Additional shipping or logistics certifications are advantageous.
• At least five years of managerial experience in an operational logistics role.
• Minimum seven years of experience in import Bill of Entry tariffing and import/export procedures (sea, air, groupage, FCL).
• Working knowledge of SARS tariffing and related import duty regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience using the Shipshape logistics software.
