Financial Accountant – High‑Volume Commodities Trading

About the role

The company is a fast‑growing commodities trading and logistics business operating across Southern Africa. Based in Cape Town’s CBD, the Financial Accountant will own the full financial cycle for a high‑volume regional operation, supporting the agricultural value chain.

Key responsibilities

• Consolidate management accounts, execute month‑end and year‑end closes and act as the primary liaison for external auditors.
• Manage high‑value, multi‑currency transactions and implement foreign‑exchange hedging strategies.
• Perform monthly stock and inventory reconciliations and resolve variances with operations teams.
• Forecast and plan cash‑flow requirements across multiple divisions and cross‑border jurisdictions.
• Process physical invoicing, creditor payments and bank reconciliations.
• Oversee statutory returns and tax compliance, including VAT and income tax, across African operating jurisdictions.
• Coordinate logistics schedules and truck bookings to ensure efficient product delivery.

Required profile

• Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles, or a CIMA qualification.
• 2–5 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably within logistics, commodities, distribution or supply‑chain environments.
• Hands‑on experience with stock and inventory reconciliations.
• Strong exposure to multi‑currency operations and foreign‑exchange transactions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in cloud accounting software.
• Advanced MS Excel.
• Experience with inventory management systems (e.g., Xero, Cin7 Core).

• Competitive total‑cash compensation of R480,000 – R660,000 per year, dependent on experience and qualifications.
