Fibre Technician – Gauteng

About the role

The Fibre Technician will build, inspect, troubleshoot and maintain the integrity of our fibre optic network infrastructure, including blown‑fibre solutions. The role demands strong technical ability, meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to high service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fibre floating (4f, 12f, 72f, 144f & 216f) and fusion splicing.
• Conduct OTDR, power‑meter and light‑source testing.
• Install and maintain equipment for L2, L3, Wireless and FTTH networks.
• Maintain fibre routes, POPs, manholes, SDCs and FTTH complexes.
• Interpret engineering plans and vendor specifications for installations and repairs.
• Carry out blown‑fibre installations and splicing for new builds, rearrangements and repairs.
• Locate, test and repair defects in fibre optic cables and related hardware.
• Complete accurate job documentation, timesheets and database updates.
• Perform preventive maintenance, route audits and provide guidance to junior technicians.
• Adhere to all health, safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• Certified in Fibre Splicing (Fusion) and OTOT testing.
• Valid driver’s licence and clear criminal record.
• 3–5 years’ experience in fibre installation, maintenance and testing.
• Knowledge of AC/DC power, fibre construction methods and TCP/IP/VoIP/Hosted PBX concepts.
• Excellent problem‑solving, time‑management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, including in confined spaces and at heights.
