Deputy Director‑General, Military Veterans Socio‑Economic Support

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans seeks a visionary and dynamic senior executive to lead socio‑economic support programmes for South African veterans. The incumbent will report directly to the Director‑General and will be bound by a performance management contract.

Key responsibilities

• Lead transversal research, policy development and the management of the military veteran database.
• Oversee transition services, health‑care support and socio‑economic assistance programmes for veterans.
• Manage physical, human and financial resources, including budgeting, expenditure monitoring and performance appraisal.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships with government units, NGOs and other partners.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate qualification (NQF Level 8) recognised by SAQA.
• 8‑10 years senior management experience in the public service or a comparable environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of public‑service legislation, PFMA financial management and veteran‑benefits frameworks.
• High integrity, strong analytical ability and understanding of veterans’ challenges.

Required skills

• Financial management and budgeting in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act.
• Planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of large‑scale programmes.
