Competent Person – Electrical Operations

About the role

The Competent Person for Electrical Operations will ensure that all electrical work on TotalEnergies assets in Cape Town complies with company rules and international best practice. This role combines HSE leadership with technical support across construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance phases.

Key responsibilities

• Identify workplace hazards related to electrical and non‑electrical activities near live installations and take corrective actions.
• Define HSE requirements for electrical activities and promote a safety culture to reduce incidents.
• Review quarterly electrical HSE statistics, analyse high‑potential incidents and ensure action plans are executed.
• Participate in electrical accident investigations, conduct root‑cause analysis and deploy corrective measures.
• Validate and approve operation procedures, risk analyses and mitigation plans for work near live equipment.
• Provide technical assistance to engineering, construction, operations, maintenance and inspection teams.
• Support procurement of major electrical equipment and services, evaluate contractor competence and ensure critical protective equipment is verified.

Required profile

• Proven experience in electrical safety and HSE management within large‑scale renewable or power‑generation projects.
• Strong knowledge of international electrical safety standards and best practices.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple business units and external contractors.
• Excellent analytical skills for incident analysis and procedural validation.
