Chief Financial Officer – Insurance Sector

About the role

This confidential senior finance position is for an experienced CFO or Finance Director operating within a fast‑growing insurance organisation in Johannesburg. You will partner directly with the CEO and Board to shape financial strategy, ensure regulatory compliance and drive sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the executive finance team and contribute to overall business strategy.
• Provide financial insight for product development, pricing and growth initiatives.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting and strategic financial planning.
• Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
• Maintain full compliance with IFRS (including IFRS 17 & IFRS 9), SAM and all regulatory requirements.
• Manage statutory reporting to the PA and FSCA.
• Direct capital adequacy, liquidity and solvency management within the SAM framework.
• Lead balance‑sheet optimisation, treasury, tax, funding relationships and audit engagements.
• Implement strong governance, internal controls and risk‑management practices.
• Collaborate with actuarial, compliance, risk and audit functions.
• Develop and mentor a high‑performing finance team.

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant (CA (SA)) with extensive senior finance experience in insurance.
• Proven ability to operate at Board level and influence strategic decisions.
• Strong commercial acumen and resilience under regulatory pressure.
