Trainee Lab Manager

About the role

The Trainee Lab Manager will support the Soillab laboratory, ensuring compliance with the Soillab Quality Manual and delivering accurate, timely test results for contractor submissions. This role combines hands‑on laboratory work with record‑keeping and coordination of site testing activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the laboratory according to the Soillab Quality Manual.
• Perform process and quality‑control testing on all contractor‑submitted works.
• Submit test summaries to the Soillab Materials Technician and obtain required approvals.
• Maintain daily laboratory diaries and compile monthly EIU reports.
• Record weather data weekly and forward summaries to the Engineering Representative.
• Control laboratory personnel, overtime, and testing vehicles, providing monthly log sheets.
• Ensure hard‑copy and electronic backup of all test records, including weekly CD copies.
• Prepare and submit duplicate sample results to Soillab and SANRAL.

Required profile

• Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Ability to manage laboratory staff and coordinate overtime.
• Experience with maintaining both hard‑copy and digital records.
• Capability to follow documented quality procedures and reporting schedules.
