SIG Operator – Cape Town

About the role

PG Building Glass is seeking a motivated SIG Operator to work on its double‑glazing line in Cape Town. You will operate the SIGU machine, ensure production and quality targets are met, and follow strict safety and documentation procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Read and measure incoming glass accurately, inspecting for breaks, scratches and uneven edges.
• Set up and start the SIGU machine, adjusting controls to match glass specifications.
• Maintain clean water tanks, operate the desiccant machine, and select the correct spacers per customer design.
• Build SIG units according to SOPs, insert primary and secondary seals, and ensure proper labeling and job cards.
• Perform routine maintenance on all machines used in the double‑glazing process.
• Record daily production data (quantity, dimensions, square/meters, material type) on standardized sheets.
• Scan and confirm each good glass before moving to the next station; scrap rejected glass for replacement.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area and report any unsafe conditions immediately.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• At least 1 year of glass processing experience.
• Self‑motivated, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• High energy, mobile and able to travel to work.

Required skills

• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to read, understand and interpret 2D drawings.
• Computer literacy.
• Basic understanding of mechanical/electrical systems of a glass toughening furnace.
