Senior Transport Manager - Fleet & Logistics Expert

About the Role

SA Metal is seeking a highly motivated, professional, and organized Senior Transport Manager to join our dynamic operations in Cape Town. As a key leader within our logistics division, you will oversee the entire transport function to ensure seamless operational flow and exceptional service delivery to our clients.

Main Responsibilities

• Manage daily transport requirements for a large-scale fleet of approximately 100 vehicles.
• Lead and supervise a diverse team, including controllers, drivers, and operational staff.
• Monitor fleet performance continuously and implement strategic cost-reduction initiatives.
• Plan and optimize transport activities to ensure maximum efficiency and resource allocation.
• Ensure full legal compliance and maintain vehicles in peak condition through collaboration with the internal workshop.
• Liaise with Human Resources for staffing needs and provide hands-on field training.
• Coordinate with the bin tracking team and the Johannesburg office for long-distance transport logistics.
• Maintain the highest standards of customer service through precise planning and execution.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum of 20 years of proven experience in the transport and logistics industry.
• At least 10 years of experience specifically managing teams of controllers and planners.
• Academic degree or professional certification related to Transport or Logistics Management.
• Deep understanding of transport laws, labor laws, and fleet management regulations.
• Proven ability to make critical decisions in high-pressure environments.

Required Skills

• Expertise in Vehicle Tracking Systems and fleet monitoring software.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Strong multitasking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
