Mechanical Design Engineer II

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to join a multidisciplinary heavy‑equipment design team. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Supervisor or Engineering Manager, you will create innovative solutions for underground mining equipment using advanced CAD and simulation tools.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D layouts, drawings, and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Perform simulations and analyses with ANSYS, MATLAB, and Nastran to optimise performance, reliability and safety.
• Lead concept development, cross‑functional reviews, component selection and detailed design.
• Prototype, test, validate, and release designs for production, providing manufacturing support and field assistance.
• Travel periodically to mines, NPD sites and validation facilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead design projects.

Required profile

• BSc Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or C.Eng. Tech).
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for heavy equipment.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to remote locations as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD.
• Simulation tools: ANSYS, MATLAB, Nastran.
• Material selection and manufacturing process knowledge.
• Ability to read and modify mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
• Experience with FEA and CFD reporting, engineering calculations and ECNs.
