Intermediate Software Engineer – Java, Cloud & DevOps

About the role

Sanlam Life & Savings is looking for an Intermediate Software Engineer to join its BTSS team. You will design, develop, test, deploy and support backend applications and APIs in a structured enterprise environment, collaborating with product owners, analysts, architects and fellow engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services using Java, Spring Boot and related components (REST, JPA, MVC, SOAP).
• Develop and enhance APIs and service integrations following business requirements and design patterns.
• Participate in technical design discussions and implement solutions that meet architectural and security standards.
• Write clean, maintainable code using libraries such as MapStruct, Lombok and Drools.
• Contribute to agile ceremonies, sprint planning and delivery commitments.
• Use Gradle for builds and support reliable CI/CD pipeline deployments.
• Create and maintain automated tests with JUnit 5, Mockito, REST Assured and WireMock.
• Support code quality through Checkstyle, PMD, code reviews and team best practices.

Required profile

• Delivery‑focused software engineer with solid experience in Java and Spring‑based development.
• Exposure to cloud platforms and DevOps delivery practices.
• Experience with automated testing and disciplined engineering standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an agile, cross‑functional team.
