Financial Officer

About the role

The Financial Officer will analyse, interpret and present financial and non‑financial information to support strategic decision‑making across Nedbank business units. This role ensures accurate reporting, maintains the integrity of the general ledger and provides actionable insights in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver daily, weekly and monthly financial reports within strict deadlines.
• Own the production and maintenance of reporting packs, including analysis and insightful commentary.
• Run and refresh high‑frequency financial reports to reflect real‑time business activity.
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger through ongoing review and control processes.
• Perform daily and monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances.
• Conduct quality‑control checks to ensure accurate postings, completeness and compliance.
• Identify, investigate and resolve errors, discrepancies and control gaps.
• Analyse financial results to identify trends, risks and key performance drivers.
• Translate financial data into meaningful business context and provide clear, actionable insights.
• Support ad‑hoc reporting requests, budget preparation and forecast analysis.
• Monitor performance against forecasts, highlighting key variances and risks.
• Build strong relationships through reliable, responsive, high‑quality delivery.
• Identify and drive improvements in reporting processes, controls and systems.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (Diploma preferred).
• 3–5 years’ hands‑on experience in financial reporting, accounting and reconciliations, preferably within financial services.
• Experience in high‑volume, deadline‑driven environments.
• Knowledge of administrative and banking procedures, governance, risk and controls, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Strong business writing and communication skills.
