Trailer Service Technician

About the role

Our client in Pretoria North seeks a Trailer Service Technician to ensure commercial, utility and heavy‑duty trailers operate safely and reliably. You will perform inspections, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and structural systems.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance such as lubrication, fluid checks and component replacement.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults using diagnostic tools and service manuals.
• Adjust wheel alignment, set brakes, slack adjusters, ride height and leveling valves.
• Install and service lift‑axle kits, valves, electrical harnesses and air‑system components.
• Conduct brake tests after overhauls and verify the condition of ABS/EBS wiring, sensors and units.
• Inspect cross‑beams, floors, apron plates, kingpins, landing legs and fifth‑wheel assemblies and report findings.
• Prepare detailed condition and pre‑inspection reports for suspensions and trailer structures.
• Provide regular breakdown, repair and service reports to management.

Required profile

• Approximately 3 years of hands‑on experience in trailer service, maintenance and repair.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
• Attention to detail in inspections and compliance with safety standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Use of diagnostic equipment for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Knowledge of 12 V and 24 V trailer electrical systems.
• Experience with wheel alignment, brake adjustment and lift‑axle installation.
• Ability to install electrical harnesses, air‑system components and service ABS/EBS wiring and sensors.
