Senior AWS Cloud Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer with deep AWS expertise to join Lesaka’s fast‑growing Enterprise Division in Cape Town. You will ensure the reliability, availability and performance of our critical fintech systems while working closely with development, operations and security teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu.
• Lead migrations from on‑premise and Azure environments to AWS.
• Build and refine CI/CD pipelines to accelerate and stabilise deployments.
• Automate operational processes to reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with software engineers to optimise application performance and reliability.
• Participate in incident response, root‑cause analysis and post‑mortem reviews.
• Apply security and compliance best practices in system design and operations.
• Take part in on‑call rotations supporting critical infrastructure.
• Optimise cloud resources for cost efficiency and performance.
• Maintain and improve the scalability and availability of production systems.
• Mentor teammates and developers.

Required profile

• 3+ years experience in Cloud Engineering, SRE or DevOps with a focus on AWS.
• Expert knowledge of AWS services.
• Strong proficiency with Terraform/OpenTofu, Terragrunt and Terraform PR automation tools (e.g., Atlantis, GitLab Terraform).
• Deep understanding of containerisation and orchestration (OCI runtimes, Kubernetes).
• Experience with ArgoCD or FluxCD.
• Proficiency with version control and CI/CD tools (Git, GitLab, GitHub, Tekton).
• Hands‑on experience with observability platforms such as Datadog.
• Solid Linux system administration, networking and troubleshooting skills.
• Good knowledge of Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Programming/scripting ability in Python, Bash or Golang.
