Quantity Surveyor (Residential Construction)

About the role

Our client, a Cape Town‑based residential construction firm, is looking for a Professional Quantity Surveyor to join their team at Fish Eagle Place, Kommetjie. The role is hands‑on, involving direct client interaction, preparation of detailed Bills of Quantities and full cost control from project inception to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Meet prospective clients to discuss scope of renovations, alterations or new builds.
• Conduct site visits to gather information and assess requirements.
• Formulate comprehensive Bills of Quantities across all trades for residential new builds using hard‑copy plans.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and produce accurate BOQs using Excel where QS software is unavailable.
• Procure materials, coordinate delivery schedules and manage supplier relationships.
• Collaborate with the Office Manager on procurement payments.
• Monitor and manage project costs throughout the build lifecycle.
• Report cost performance to the Director and Senior Project Manager.
• Manage variation orders and ensure compliance with JBCC Minor Works contracts.

Required profile

• 5+ years experience formulating full BOQs for residential new builds from hard‑copy plans.
• 5+ years as a qualified Quantity Surveyor registered with SACQSP.
• Proven estimating and pricing experience on domestic housing projects, including alterations and additions.
• Strong procurement experience, sourcing and pricing materials.
• Reliable transport and personal computer for site inspections and client meetings.
• Based in Cape Town and able to commute daily to Kommetjie.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for BOQ preparation.
