Professional Nurse – Operating Theatre

About the role

This position is for a Professional Nurse working in the theatre department of Ascot Park Hospital. The role focuses on delivering age‑appropriate patient care in line with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) scope of practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient care according to the SANC nursing scope of practice.
• Practice within the Registered Nurse scope and adhere to all hospital policies, procedures and protocols.
• Lead, supervise and motivate theatre staff, ensuring compliance with equipment maintenance standards.
• Handle drugs and manage scheduling in accordance with legal requirements.
• Teach and mentor staff members within the unit.
• Uphold the highest standards of clinical practice in the theatre.
• Ensure compliance with SANC regulations and other stakeholder legislation.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
• Registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with a valid APC.
• Good interpersonal skills with doctors, patients and colleagues.
• Preferably at least two years of experience as a Scrub Sister.
• Willingness to work additional hours and on‑call duties.
• Excellent telephone and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Computer literate – proficient in MS Word and Excel.
