About the role
The Office Assistant will provide efficient and reliable office support services to ensure a professional, safe and well‑functioning working environment at the FAO Country Office in South Africa. The role involves maintaining office accessibility, managing supplies, supporting meetings and events, and assisting with safety and security compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Perform general administrative and clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, and managing correspondence.
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, trainings, seminars and special events.
- Maintain office supplies, inventory and coordinate deliveries.
- Accompany internal and external visitors to the UN House as required.
- Enter data, maintain records and manage document archives (both physical and electronic).
- Register incoming and outgoing correspondence, parcels and official documents.
- Support staff with retrieval of administrative documents and records.
- Assist with local travel arrangements and logistics.
- Coordinate office support services for meetings, trainings, committees and special projects.
Required profile
- Completed high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in office support, cleaning or facility maintenance.
- Working knowledge (level C) of English.
- South African national or resident with a valid work permit.
