Legal Counsel (Retail)

About the role

The Retail Legal Counsel will provide business‑focused legal advice and contract support to Momentum Investments' retail businesses. This position requires deep knowledge of South African financial services regulation, including LISP platforms, insurance and retirement products, FAIS, the Insurance Act and the Pension Funds Act.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of legal documents such as investment management agreements, service level agreements, client‑facing documents and data agreements.
• Monitor legal risks, report on regulatory developments and support training on legal updates.
• Advise internal stakeholders on contracting, product queries and the interpretation of legislation.
• Provide legal support for product launches, portfolio introductions and regulatory change projects.
• Collaborate with tax, marketing, compliance and IT teams on multi‑disciplinary initiatives.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an attorney.
• 3–5 years of post‑admission legal experience, preferably in a LISP/wealth environment.
• Strong knowledge of South African financial sector laws (FAIS, FICA, CISCA, Insurance Act, Pension Funds Act, POPIA).
• Experience in contract drafting and commercial legal advice.
• CFP designation is advantageous.
